No water · Home visits

Microsuction at home — no water, in your own front room.

Microsuction clears wax using a fine suction device rather than water. We bring it to you, so the method you would normally travel to a clinic for happens in your own chair instead.

Because nothing is flushed in, there is no water involved at any stage — which is why microsuction is the method people usually ask for by name. A fine suction tip draws the wax out while the practitioner watches the canal directly, working in small stages rather than all at once.

The equipment is portable, so a home visit is no compromise: the same method, in a room you are already comfortable in, with no waiting list and no drive home afterwards.

Every visit is by the same practitioner — insured, DBS checked, and with 30 years in the NHS and Adult Social Care behind her.

What happens on the visit

  1. Your ears are looked at firstBoth ears are examined before anything is done, so the right approach is chosen rather than assumed.
  2. Fine suction, watched directlyThe wax is drawn out with a fine suction tip while the practitioner watches the canal, in small stages rather than all at once.
  3. No water at any pointNothing is flushed in, so there is no wet ear afterwards and nothing to dry out.
  4. A final look, and you are doneBoth ears are re-checked at the end so you know they are clear before we leave.

Questions people ask

Is microsuction noisy?

The suction is audible — most people describe it as a hoovering sound close to the ear. It is brief, and it stops the moment the tip is out of the ear.

Do I need drops before microsuction?

Not always, and less often than for irrigation, because nothing has to be flushed out. If the wax is very hard, a few days of olive oil drops still makes it easier — we will tell you if that is worth doing.

Can you really do microsuction at a home visit?

Yes. The equipment is portable. All the room needs to provide is somewhere comfortable to sit and enough light to work by, and we bring the rest.

What does it cost?

£30 for one ear, £50 for both — the same as irrigation. There is no premium for asking for microsuction, no call-out fee, and no weekend surcharge.
